Rainy Day Activities Pensacola FL
It’s not supposed to rain in the Sunshine State! Yet many of our sunny summer days are broken up by an afternoon shower. So when the sky falls, we’ve got you covered – like an umbrella.
LEARN. It’s raining, it’s pouring, the old man is … snoring? Although a nap is never a bad idea on a gray day, we have some ideas to capture your attention. Pensacola is home to a mélange of museums to suit any interest from fine art to physics. Downtown, you can check out the TT Wentworth and Pensacola Children’s Museum, where your family can explore a colonial village and learn about Florida history in interactive displays; Pensacola Museum of Art, whose permanent collection features the likes of John James Audubon and Pablo Picasso; and the new Pensacola MESS HALL, an all hands-on science museum that stands for Math, Engineering, Science and Stuff. Or head to NAS Pensacola to view the largest collection of military aircraft in the world at the National Museum of Naval Aviation.
SHOP. If the weather’s got you down, perhaps a little retail therapy is in order. If you want to stay on the beach, head to the Portofino Boardwalk for a fine assortment of fashions, jewelry, and souvenirs. Or pop over to Pensacola to visit Cordova Mall or the vibrant historic Downtown Pensacola district.
EAT. There are many restaurants right on the beach where you can take cover while you take in the view. Among our favorites are Red Fish Blue Fish, Shaggy’s Restaurant, Hemingway’s, Grand Marlin and H20 Grill at the Hilton Pensacola Beach hotel– for views that can’t be beat while you eat!
PLAY. If your little ones need to burn off some energy, there are plenty of indoor places to play. On the beach, try the arcade at Tiki Island Golf & Games. Just across the bridge in Gulf Breeze, visit the FunPlex for recreational classes and preschool gym. In Pensacola, you can take a tumble during Open Play at Kidsnasium or grab a pizza and see the mouse himself at Chuck E. Cheese’s.
ROLL WITH IT. Strike! If the lanes are calling your name in the rain, head into Pensacola to bowl at Cordova Lanes, where you can also throw darts, play poker, sing Karaoke or catch the big game. A little further into town is Oops Alley, featuring 24 lanes, a full-service restaurant and bar, dance floor and arcade.
RELAX. Seeking serenity? Schedule a massage, mani-pedi or full-blown makeover at Fusion Spa Salon on Pensacola Beach.
READ. Rainy days are the perfect time to lose yourself in a great book. Head to the Santa Rosa County Library in Gulf Breeze, or into Pensacola to stroll the aisles of Barnes & Noble. Both locations offer regular story times for children; just check their websites before you go.
CATCH A FLICK. Movie lovers can relax into a cushy seat and throw back the popcorn at the Breeze Cinema 8 in Gulf Breeze or the Carmike Bayou 15 in Pensacola. For a less traditional theater experience, try the IMAX at the National Museum of Naval Aviation.
Remember: even the grayest day can be beautiful. When all else fails, just take in the view. Find comfort in the clouds from the balcony or poolside bar at the Holiday Inn Resort hotel Pensacola Beach.
